“Dangal”, means wrestling. Based on the true life story of Mahavir Singh Phogat. He was an amateur wrestle and is a coach for the Olympics. This is a biopic of a former award-winning athlete who wanted to win the ultimate prize, a gold medal for his country. He was so close himself and that fact still haunts him. He carries with him the shame of not being the best.
Years, later as time goes by he hopes that his sons will carry on the legacy and bring honor by following in his footsteps. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have any sons but has four girls to his name.
With Mahavir’s own unmet expectations are compiled by the fact that; the Indian wrestling team hasn’t had any wins for many years.
His daughters certainly inherit their father’s fighting spirit. Which, has gotten them into trouble as they beat up even the boys in their neighborhood.
Still, clinging to his hopes he begins to prepare and train his daughters to wrestle. They will be the ones to bring him and their country the gold!
They begin to enter local championships and begin to not only do well but, win and get the top awards.

Ultimate girl power movie! Even, in the male dominated sport of wrestling a woman can show her heart, strength, and power. You will find yourself rooting for the girls all throughout! Wonderful movie on the power of a dream and the power of family’s working together.
A great film showing even how dreams can surpass even the gender roles and society’s expectations.
The journey to finding just the right girls for the lead roles was a long run. The director shared, that he (Nitesh Tiwari)and Aamir Khan ultimately auditioned over 3,000 girls for the roles. Even, auditioning the two real life daughters of Mahavir Singh Phogat. Until, he found the ones that would bring this championing heart-felt story to life.
The critics have loved the movie as well. I think that due to Disney being involved in the production and the story telling really went far to make it an even better film. This movie was filmed in many locations in order to tell the story. The locations include: Ludhiana, Punjab India.
