What is the story about?

The narrative of Ulajh revolves around Suhana Bhatia, a young woman from a family of patriots. Her father, portrayed by Adil Hussain, is a respected IFS officer, and Suhana’s ambition is to make her father proud. Despite her young age, Suhana ascends to the position of Indian Diplomat in the UK, attracting attention due to her father’s influence. However, a deeper conspiracy unfolds as Gulshan Devaiah’s character, Nakul Bhatia, reveals his allegiance to ISIS. As the plot thickens, an honest IFS officer finds herself ensnared in a web of deceit orchestrated within her own country. Roshan Mathew, Meiyang Chang, and others play roles in the intelligence agencies safeguarding India.

What makes Ulajh captivating?

Janhvi Kapoor and Gulshan Devaiah drive the intrigue in Ulajh with their stellar performances. The film oscillates between highs and lows, offering moments of shock and entertainment. Kapoor shines in her portrayal of Suhana Bhatia, proving her mettle in complex characters. Gulshan Devaiah’s portrayal of Nakul Bhatia is a standout, showcasing his versatility as an actor. Roshan Mathew adds depth and thrill to the narrative, supported by a well-chosen ensemble cast including Adil Hussain and Rajesh Tailang. Director Sudhanshu Saria’s vision shines through, balancing action and suspense without overwhelming the storyline. The absence of excessive songs adds to the film’s focused narrative, with special mention to the track “Shaukan.”

What could have been better?

While Ulajh holds viewers’ attention, it becomes slightly predictable after a certain point. The pacing in the first half is sluggish, with the narrative picking up momentum post-interval. The screenplay could have been more concise, offering deeper characterization and exploration. Meiyang Chang’s talent feels underutilized in the film, with minimal screen time for his character.

Verdict:

Ulajh falls short of its full potential but remains a compelling one-time watch. The climax offers a surprising twist for viewers, making it worth the journey.
