Movie Review
This is a follow up to the 2013 film “Jolly LLB”. These films are inspired by actual events in India. This is the sequel. The first film was a highly awarded film receiving seven wins and seven nominations. The film’s success and the response was definitely a surprise.
In “Jolly LLB 2”, the story continues and finds lawyer Jolly (played by Akshay Kumar). Jolly again takes his law background and work for those who are oppressed and the underdogs. He strives to do what is good and right. Even, if means being the only one who will do so. It is definitely defined as a courtroom drama.
Though, it isn’t all serious is more in the comedy-drama. But, it has a darker element to it.
I was surprised at the facts at the beginning of the trailer. “India’s populations is 125 million but there are only 21,000 judges.” As well as there being 3.5 million crores still pending.
It said that there are countless cases that are even waiting to be seen or heard. Which, means that there are many people today in India who are still waiting for justice and their lives to go on. This seems to be the norm in its views on crime as well as its judicial system.
Jolly, is an awkward, funny lawyer who is assigned to a high-profile case. Everything depends on him winning and being professional. He even takes on the role of detective and investigator as well.
The film is written and directed by Subhash Kapoor. He is a director, producer, actor, and screenwriter. Kapoor has even received many accolades and is an award-winning talent. He was previously a political journalist and then made the switch to the entertainment industry. Though, you can see how he brings his views and experience in the area of politics to his movies. As he tackles society’s issues in his dark comedy drama projects.
He is very importantly, not to be mistaken with anyone else. However, he does share the same name as Subhash Kapoor the art dealer. The later Kapoor was convicted of running an international art theft ring.
Shooting for the film took place in the following locations: Lucknow, Varanasi, and Kashmir.
Music for “Jolly LLB 2”, is by Manj Musik, The Meet Brothers, and Chirantan Bhatt. Four songs are included on the movie’s soundtrack which is produced by T-Series. Lyrics have been penned by Shabbir Ahmed, Junai Wasi, and Raftaar. Additional musical arrangements are by Komail.
This is a good film in which you will find humor and reality of life in the courts of India.
