Kangana Ranaut reacts to court’s decision: “I’m a target”

Kangana Ranaut’s Film “Emergency” Faces Certification Hurdle as Bombay High Court Declines Intervention

MyAxom Reviews – Kangana Ranaut’s highly-anticipated film, “Emergency,” has hit a roadblock as the Bombay High Court refused to intervene in the certification process. This decision stems from a prior directive by the Madhya Pradesh High Court, instructing the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to carefully review objections raised against the film before granting approval.

Legal Impasse:

Following the Bombay High Court’s ruling, Kangana Ranaut expressed her thoughts on social media, stating, “Today I have become everyone’s favourite target, this is the price you pay for awakening this sleeping nation.” The court’s decision was based on maintaining judicial propriety and avoiding conflicting orders with the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s directive.

The CBFC has been instructed to consider objections raised against the film and make a decision by September 18. The court emphasized the need for careful consideration due to existing legal frameworks. However, a final decision is pending after the next hearing, leaving the film’s release date uncertain.

Production House Petition:

Zee Studios, involved in the production of “Emergency,” submitted a petition urging the court to facilitate the film’s release. They claim that the CBFC has unduly delayed certification issuance, despite the certification being prepared. Allegations of arbitrary actions and external pressures influencing the process have been raised.

Community Concerns:

Earlier, certain religious organizations filed a petition in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, expressing concerns over scenes in the film that they believe could misrepresent their community or historical events. The court directed the CBFC to address these objections before granting certification to the film.

Controversy and Release Uncertainty:

The film, centered on a critical period in Indian history, was initially set for release on September 6th but now faces uncertainty due to objections raised. Sikh communities have criticized the film for distorting historical facts and portraying certain groups negatively, potentially inciting communal tensions.

Kangana Ranaut portrays former PM Indira Gandhi in the movie, focusing on the national emergency declared in the 1970s.
