Naam Shabana Movie Review

“Naam Shabana” or entitled in English “The name is Shabana.” The films is an action thriller.

It isn’t a sequel but a spin-off film based on the 2015 film Baby. In “Baby”  the story follows  a team who is assembled after the 2008 attacks in Mumbai and their job is to locate and eradicate the terrorists.

Taapsee Pannu rejoins this cast playing the same character Shabana.  This time she is the female lead. She is a female spy and the film following her spy’s life and her team. It tells the story of how Shabana ultimately became a spy and her journey up until the present.

She loses someone she loves and because she wasn’t able to protect them she feels the guilt of their death on her. She is basically scouted out of all these potential recruits and is asked to the join the agency. Shabana trains hard and kicks butt even along the way in her training.

Shabana is recruited to help bring in notorious criminal Tony pretty much by herself. With the exception of one older male officer. She exceeds not only her expectations but the expectations of the agency as well. She isn’t afraid to do the job by herself even when the men are.

She pretty much takes over and finds her own purpose on this mission and in the agency itself. Shabana even though out of heartbreak was born to be a spy and she’s a natural at it.

The agency’s goal is to protect the “national security of India at any costs.” So, it just goes to show far they will go to ensure the safety of India.
